I was recently surprised to notice that Home Depot Canada is charging a restocking fee on items purchased at their store and later returned.
On their sales invoice, after each line item, they now have a line the maximum refund on this item is..
I recently purchased some copper plumbing supplies and the cashier insisted on punching in every single item, one-at-a-time! So the invoice was already 40 lines long. Then add in 40 lines of the maximum refund on this item is and my invoice was now 80 lines long!
In my haste to get all my items (lesson: don't buy plumbing supplies on a Friday night after a long week), I picked up a double of one item and the wrong type of copper elbows.
When I returned the items, the clerk didn't tell me there was a re-stocking charge. When I got home I discovered that my $16 refund should have been $20! Boo! Hiss!
So beware hardware consumers!
